It’s only normal to expect that fake pictures begin appearing almost everywhere when something new is about to be

released. The same thing has happened with the new iPad 3 which is about to be released early next month. With hundreds of other pictures that have been released, a new image has also been leaked and according to reports, they are high-resolution “Retina” displays.

Though the reports have been claimed as such, there hasn’t been any confirmation of the claims. However, MacRumors has been able to obtain one of the above-mentioned displays and have actually examined it under a microscope to see if it’s an ultra-high resolution ‘Retina’ display or not. Scroll on to read about the exciting details!

We appreciate MacRumors for the effort that they have put into cracking this mystery. According to the image that has been obtained, the iPad 3 display is the same size as the one seen in the iPad 1 and the iPad 2, which means that the iPad 3’s display stands at 9.7’’ in diagonal and thus, looks similar to the older versions to the naked eye. MacRumors have been able to see the difference present in the iPad 3 and the iPad 2 display by comparing them both under a microscope. According to their findings, both the displays are different and the iPad 3 display’s pixels appear to be one-quarter the size of those seen in the iPad 2 display.

If one looks at the image, they can make out the pixels present in them, which are made up of red, green and blue elements. A cluster of 4 pixels (2×2) from the iPad 2 have been highlighted in order to compare it to the same area on the iPad 3. After the comparison, it can be seen that the same cluster has been occupied by 16 pixels (4×4), which is actually twice the resolution of the iPad 2 in either direction. This means that the iPad 3 screen should probably carry a full resolution of 2048×1536, and that’s twice the linear resolution present in the iPad 1 and iPad 2.

We will have to wait until Apple introduces the iPad 3 on March 7, possibly. It’s also rumored that the iPad 3 will feature a new A6 system-on-a-chip and a LTE support for models with cellular data capabilities.
